I Was Hungry, And You Gave Me…VENISON!

Honestly, nobody EXPECTS to fail. No one ever commits themselves to something, PLANNING for the worst-case scenario. Yet, we ALL know, sometimes life just “happens!” Which explains why having a safety nets seems like a really sound idea for almost EVERY aspect of our lives.

BUT… what happens when your safety net has big, huge, ENORMOUS holes in it?!? Logic dictates that something – or someone – will fall through the gaps! Unfortunately, every day MILLIONS of Americans do fall through the cracks in our country’s “safety nets.” Yes, even in the world’s greatest food-producing nation, children and adults face poverty and hunger in every county across America. In 2017:

  • In the United States, 40 MILLION people struggled with hunger, including more than 12 MILLION children
  • A food-insecure household has limited or uncertain access to enough food to support a healthy life
  • Households with children were MORE likely to be food insecure than those without children
  • AND… 58% of food-insecure households participated in at least one of the major federal food assistance program – the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly Food Stamps); the National School Lunch Program and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC)

WELL… there go the safety nets! And families must now make impossible choices: food or housing; food or electricity; food or medicine. These decisions are made every day, in homes all around us – maybe even in your neighbor’s home OR yours! But, unlike many manifestations of poverty, this one remains largely invisible. Your friend could be dealing with food insecurity and you might never even KNOW!

However, THIS is something we can do something about. And Blind Faith Foundation has, once again, arisen to the challenge – guided by our Father’s instructions: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in” (Matthew 25:35)

Thanks to dozens of generous trophy hunters, and a local meat processing and packaging company, we have an abundance of lean, flavorful and all-natural venison! So as a part of our on-going ministry to those around us who HAVE fallen through the “safety nets” we have been able to bless countless families in our community… and we’re STILL going.

One of our grateful recipients told us:

“This was a true godsend! Due to the sale of a company I had been with for 10 years, I was staring unemployment squarely in the face. And, while government assistance and some part-time work kept a roof over my head, I started having to make some HARD choices… then, Blind Faith stepped in and now I have a freezer FULL of prime venison!”

And this is just ONE of the many stories we have heard and it warms our hearts – much like the pot of chili she made with some of this tasty venison! We also understand this is a continuing need and we’ll keep blessing families all year long; it’s not just a “once-a-year” kind of thing. Just as God’s mercy is unending, so should our mission be to assist others: “If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed'” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?” (James 2:16) It is a TANGIBLE expression of our love and humanity! But, we don’t want to keep all these “warm fuzzys” to ourselves… YOU can get in on all the “feels” too, by following us on social media or donating to our various campaigns, or even by letting us know of someone who could benefit from the blessing of VENISON – because we can’t think of a tastier “safety net!”
